Watching what the large brands do can be a huge lesson for us small businesses. We may not have their budget but we can study what they do and learn from them. I notice that every where you look it’s the same large companies involved with community events. Companies like Wells Fargo and Zappos just to name a couple to keep your eye on. They are consistently involved with the community and consistently giving of their time and their name.
If you have the space to host events use it! The more you do the more people you will expose your business or community to. Host a craft show or a bake sale. Offer to help out the girl scouts or cub scouts by allowing them to have their meetings there. Offer to let a church group hold a bible study. Have community yard sales. Invite the near by high school athletics department to have their car washes on your property. All of these items will attract customers that maybe never knew you existed. You will be building your brand and you will be doing it with integrity by giving back to your community.
We live in one of the busiest cities in the United States! There are events, expos and trade shows every weekend if not every day! If you can’t set up a table at least go and net work. Find out how you can get involved in the next one. Make those connections so that your company may be able to help out at a future event.
If you have employees, ask them what they are involved with. What are their hobbies outside of work or what charities are near to their heart so that when you do pick one to be involved with it is one your group is passionate about.
Remember this must be a genuine attempt to be apart of the community in which you do business. Take part and pay attention to the community needs. Watch the large brands and see how they conduct themselves. Make sure you’re building a partnership and a relationship with everyone you meet. Become a part of the community. Don’t be a wall flower. When people come together to contribute amazing things happen!
